Math Tutor for 8th Graders
Success with high school math begins way before high school. For this reason I serve as a math tutor for 8th graders. The transition from middle school to high school math can be challenging for many students. Whether your student is preparing for college admission or planning to get a GED, the algebra taught in 8th grade and 9th grade is foundational. Around 70% or more of the SAT covers algebra. There are atleast two categories where the College Board specifically mentions algebra: Algebra and Advanced Math. Each of these is around 35% of the test. Additionally, the GED typically covers mostly Algebra 1 level algebra. Please do not underestimate the importance of success in Algebra 1.

I developed a special concern around this topic of developing prepardness for high school math years ago during my first year teaching high school math in one of our nation's public schools. Two of the classes assigned to me were for high school students that had been identified as probably needing more assistance with prealgebra before being placed in the typical high school Algebra 1 class. For this reason, I studied dyscalculia teaching and tutoring methods to be able to reach more students. There is a critical need to support student success in high school math way before high school.
